Z O N E

My idea for this project was to create my own headphone brand. I also designed my own logo for the brand, a billboard banner poster for advertisement included the designed logo and I also created a commercial trailer for the brand as well. These were the final pieces of work for the project. Most obviously the theme I was exploring is music but it’s all about sound as headphones produce this for people and I will make this brand be a new original idea.

Final Logo

I concluded my logo design with this final version due to it being the most attractive and most professional looking. I wanted my logo to stand out as well as have a professional standard to it that would give the brand itself a professional feel. I feel that the gradient of the black and sleek green gives it a cutting edge almost. A very crisp and strong quality logo that goes well with the word ‘ZONE’. I decided to make this design of the logo with the use of a circle shape mainly because I was inspired by Beats By Dre designs of their headphones. I did want to add my own original design elements such as the slice through the circle and then adding the sound waves. The use of the ‘Z’ I wanted to create a unique letter so I created the cut in shape inside the letter.

Zone Banner/Trailer Animation

The next phase of my project was to create an animated advert for my new brand. I used After Effects for this and the process was extremely time consuming as I wanted this to be the most professional looking animation I have ever created. Due to this being a brand project and I focused mainly on the branding and wanted the advert to look perfect for a customer audience. I had imagined that this would be an advert that is seen on digital banners in major cities like London and in train stations. Imagining this allowed me to focus completely on making the advert look professional as possible. Above are screenshots of the process, the animation lasts for about 49 seconds, initially I wanted it to last for a minute but this was I felt enough time to show everything as I wanted this to be a quick advert but not too quick. I think the most challenging part of creating this was timing the music towards the end as I didn’t want the entire song to play. I cut it down and timed it well I believe. Another challenge i faced was getting one of the text layers to react to the beat of the music. I used YouTube to learn how to do this.

The colour scheme I went for in this animation was something that I wanted to match the brand colours so a basic Turquoise/Green and also added light greys and the main background being white as white is just a nice strong colour to let anything stand out well. These simple colours also allowed the visual elements such as the images of the headphones to look very professional.

I had looked at a lot of other headphone adverts to see how their animations for their adverts look professional so i looked at the brands that I researched which were Beats, Sony and Bose. From watching the adverts, it allowed me to come up with what kind of transitions of backgrounds and text to add in and be part of the sequence.

I then also included a scene where there are three different coloured headphones and I made up the names of these colours myself as a lot of companies do this for their products such as Apple with their ‘Space Grey’ phone etc. So I came up with my names to describe the colour so I thought ‘Cosmic Black’ for the black headphone was a great name to describe black and then the others were ‘Ash Grey’ for the grey headphone and then ‘Air White’.

I believe what went well for this advert was mainly the professional approach I had with it which therefore led me to execute a business looking brand. Overall I believe that it was what I had hoped the advert to look like, it is a smooth animation with fun but simple colours that stand out, the transitions of each animation element work well together and it all ended in a successful result and enhanced my skills further in terms of animation and gave me the experience of designing my own original brand for a product.
